Fairagora's commitment to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals

What are SDGs?

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of global goals set by the United Nations to achieve a more sustainable future for all. The 17 SDGs address global challenges and promote the development of social, economic and environmental sustainability.

Fairagora's commitment to SDGs

Achieving the SDGs will require actors across public and private sectors to work together at scale. As sustainable development is at the heart of our mission, we are committed to the realization of these goals. The SDGs provide us with a framework to steer and monitor the impact of our projects.

How do Fairagora's projects concretely support the SDGs?

  • Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns (SDG#12)

Our core business is to support sustainable agriculture. Through our digital tool and partnerships with various stakeholders from farmers to multinational companies, we promote sustainable farming practices and ensure more transparency and traceability across the food supply chain. Our work aims at fostering responsible consumption and benefits to the consumers while strengthening farmers’ economic, social and environmental situation.

  • Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts (SDG#13)

Agriculture is a key sector in the climate challenge. At Fairagora, we are incorporating carbon footprint calculation features into our application and have identified mitigation mediums to reduce greenhouse gas emissions such as: reducing water and fuel consumption, stopping biomass burning, replacing chemical fertilizers with bio-intrants, and composting. We will work with farmers to implement these new practices, especially in our upcoming Climate Change Project we are undertaking with Nestle in the Thai sugarcane industry.

  • Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all (SDG#8)

The social dimension is also an essential component of our projects: we use data analysis to measure the farms’ compliance with the law and social standards. To corroborate the relevance of our metrics, we mobilized an expert committee and came up with 12 social categories including forced labor, child labor, worker discrimination, health, and safety.

  • Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls (SDG#5)

The VerifiK8 app monitors gender equality data points and non-discriminatory practices on farms. This ensures equal treatment between male and female workers. Being a female-led company with predominantly female staff, Fairagora supports gender equality and women empowerment.

  • Other SDGs

Because our projects include social, economic, and environmental dimensions, we also contribute to a lesser extent to several other SDGs. Indeed, by supporting sustainable agriculture, we participate in the protection of terrestrial ecosystems (SDG#15), the rise of smallholders’ revenues (SDG#1), and the improvement of their health (SDG#3). Finally, we are committed to enhancing partnerships (SDG#17) and connecting stakeholders toward the realization of common goals. We are proud to be part of an ecosystem of committed actors who work toward the development of a more sustainable world by improving food supply chains.
